NEWS
2026-06-15: LocalRoot gets new specifications
After many lessons learned from deploying LocalRoot or similar technologies over the last 10 years, a number of people are redesigning the LocalRoot standardization documents:
- Populating resolvers with the root zone
- An IANA root zone publication source list format
- The DNS XFR URI Schemes
- Guidelines for IANA DNS Root Zone Publication List Providers
- DNS Root Server System Usage Considerations
2026-06-12: Support for https-based zone transfers.
- Many resolvers now support transferring zones oven HTTPS instead of DNS with AXFR. Our configuration generator now has an option to prefer HTTPS sources when available.
2026-06-12: New anonymous-user configuration generation.
- For those that don't want to create an account and register their servers, you can simply use our generic configuration generator (although you'll miss out on our additional features).
2026-01-15: Video: you don't need the root server system!!
- Wes gave a (short) talk at NANOG entailed you don't need the root server system
- An option to LocalRoot was added to prefer HTTP based configuration options when available in your resolver software.
